About Laura

A lifelong connection to art and nature.

Art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Creating art has always brought me a great deal of joy, both as a painter and as someone who loves observing the natural world.

Over the years, I have explored a variety of mediums, including botanical illustration, colored pencil, graphite, watercolor, and, more recently, oils. Watercolor has remained a constant throughout much of my artistic life. I have had the opportunity to present my work through the San Diego Watercolor Society, Fallbrook Art Society, and Escondido Art Association in Southern California.

Nature is at the heart of much of my work. I am an avid gardener and especially enjoy painting flowers, birds, and landscapes. Often, it is a small detail that catches my attention: the shape of a flower, the color of a bird, or a quiet moment in the landscape. Those observations frequently become the inspiration for a painting.

Some of my happiest hours are spent in my garden or in my studio. My studio gives me a place to spread out my brushes, paints, and drawings and simply settle into the creative process.

After many years in San Diego, we recently moved to Auburn, California. As I began looking for ways to meet other artists and become part of the local arts community, I discovered Placer Artists Studios Tour. I am excited to continue creating, connecting with other artists, and sharing my work in this new chapter.

When I’m not painting, you can usually find me spending time with my husband, our children and grandchildren, and good friends. I also enjoy traveling, gathering with my book group, gardening, and serving as an art docent at a local elementary school. Whether I’m exploring somewhere new, sharing art with children, or simply enjoying time with the people I love, these experiences continue to inspire the way I see the world.

"I find that oil allows for a depth of color that matches the intensity of the California light."
